Clinton, Iowa – July 22, 2026 – Kerry Espey, an author and educator, has released her debut picture book Not Yet, written to help children process big feelings while reinforcing patience, resilience, and hope. The book’s guiding message—“not yet doesn’t mean never”—offers a gentle framework for kids learning that growth takes time and that love can carry us through change.
The story follows a girl and her mom through life’s stages, showing how everyday moments build emotional strength. Early on, the mother’s “not yet” helps the child practice responsibility and self-control. Later, it becomes guidance around independence, boundaries, and decision-making.
As the narrative progresses, the book also opens a compassionate doorway for discussing grief and caregiving with age-appropriate language. Espey shared that she hopes the story helps families and educators create space for children to name emotions, ask questions, and feel supported.
“I am an author and educator who created a heartfelt story to help little kids understand big feelings,” Espey said. “I hope that when readers finish my book, they feel something in their hearts.”
